Program Description

The Associate of Arts in Cultural Studies — Fine Arts concentration provides a two-year foundation in studio practice, art history, and cultural theory, preparing students for further study in fine arts and related disciplines.

Program Objectives

The objective of the program is to provide students with a foundational knowledge of fine arts practice and cultural studies, and to prepare them for further specialization in studio arts, art history, and visual culture. Students will:

• Develop foundational and intermediate skills in drawing and painting, building a personal studio practice and visual language grounded in direct observation and creative exploration.
  

• Gain an understanding of art history and cultural theory through an international and intercultural lens, examining global cultural movements, cross-cultural dialogue, and the social and historical contexts of artistic production.
  

• Engage with the city of Florence and its cultural community through experiential and service learning activities, connecting studio practice to the broader urban and artistic environment.
  

General Education Requirements

All AA candidates are required to complete at least 21 gen ed credits in the areas of English Composition, Humanities, Mathematics, Physical and Biological Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Italian language.
