Sculpture

3 semester credits. This course examines sculptural practice through an integrated exploration of traditional and contemporary materials, processes, and methods. Utilizing three-dimensional form-making skills, students will deepen their technical understanding of modeling, casting, and assembling across a range of media including wax, plaster, and clay. The course examines both abstract and realistic modes of sculptural expression, with continued attention to bas-relief, high relief, and complex three-dimensional forms, alongside more advanced casting techniques. Traditional and contemporary concerns of sculpture are examined through projects, demonstrations, and critical analysis of historical and contemporary works. A strong emphasis is placed on the development of individual artistic identity and sensibility - encouraging students to move beyond technical mastery toward a more conceptually grounded and personally expressive sculptural practice.
