Ceramics

3 semester credits. This course explores ceramics practice through an integrated exploration of hand-building, surface decoration, and firing techniques. Using foundational skills for clay construction, students will deepen their technical understanding of clay bodies, glazing, and firing processes, while expanding their practice to include plaster work and mold making. A strong emphasis is placed on design development, critical evaluation of form, and the cultivation of an independent artistic voice - encouraging students to move beyond technical exercises toward a more considered and conceptually grounded studio practice. Lecture content situates ceramics within its broader historical and cultural contexts, with particular attention to the Mediterranean ceramic tradition and the work of contemporary ceramic artists.
